How to Use Measurement

Easy Tracker 2009 integrates measurement items insides.

With these measurement items, you can collect some data in Easy Tracker Lite easily and quickly.

For example, to review a document, you may want to get these measurement items: how many pages have been reviewed, how many bugs have been found, etc. All of these data can be collected in the time entries. With these data, you can get a clear view of your productivity, and help to improve your capability base. If the measurement tool is applied in your team, you can then get the productivity of the team, and calculate your team's capability base of document review, unit test, integrated test, system test, etc.

How to define your measurement items

One task provides three measurement items to measure. If there are more than 3 items to measure, you need consider to choose the most important 3 items from them.

Note: once a user has used the measure item to track a task, you should prevent altering the measure item name, otherwise the previous created time entries may use the wrong item names, and the reports or statistics may not correct.

Inheritance explanation:

	Time entries <= tasks
	Measurement item name and hint of time entries inherit from the corresponding tasks.

Switch to My Tasks view of Easy Tracker Lite or Tasks view of Easy Tracker Pro, in the Measurement Items section, define your measurement items according to your business model.

After define the necessary measurement items, you can then enter measurement information in Time Tracker or Time Log view in General Category of Easy Tracker Lite.

In Summary tab, the Measurement Items section is available when you define measurement items for the corresponding task.

Switch to the Time Log view, the Measurement part lists the measurement information. The footer of the table summarizes the item value.

Drag the Task column header to the group box, the measurement information is sorted by task. The footer of the table summarizes the item value. You can collect your measurement information every week, and calculate the capability base of yours or your team.

The report in Easy Tracker Report let you have a clear view of the measurement information.

The following table describes the fields of these three measurement items in task entry.

Explanation of fields

Field	Description
Measurement Item A
Item A Name	Measurement item A name. This name is inherited from the measurement item name A in the preferences. You can use this field to title item A. This name will be displayed in the time log, and guide user to input measure item. For example, to review a document, you may want to get these measurement items: how many pages has been reviewed, how many bugs has been found, etc. All of these data can be collected in the time log. Item A Hint	Measurement item A description. it will be used as a hint in the timesheet entry tools, and help user to understand the measurement item A. You can customize the name and hint of a measurement item in My Task view of Easy Tracker Lite or Task view of Easy Tracker Pro.
Item A Value	The value of item A. Enter the data you want to collect, for example, how many pages has been reviewed, how many bugs has been found, etc. After an activity, you can enter its measurement information in Time Tracker or Time Log view in General Category of Easy Tracker Lite, and view them in Measurement part of Time Log view.

Item B Name	The second measurement item. The meaning is the same as Item A Name
Item B Hint	The meaning is the same as Item A Hint
Item B Value	The meaning is the same as Item A Value
Measurement Item C
Item C Name	The third measurement item. The meaning is the same as Item A Name
Item C Hint	The meaning is the same as Item A Hint
Item C Value	The meaning is the same as Item A Value
